On the job


In this activity I looked for business verbs , writing sentences with these and in that way to do it easy to understand.



Job description


  • Supervise. She supervises the telephone operators.
  • Report to. You report to your line manager.
  • Manage. He manages a team of five people.
  • Liaise with. My job is to liaise with our clients.
  • Answer to. I'm the boss so you answer to me.

Recruitment

  • Employ. The company only employs six people.
  • Take on. They take on extra staff in August.
  • Hire. They're hiring people for the factory.
  • Apply. He's applying for a new job.
  • Interview. She interviewed twenty people.

Career development

  • Appraise. We appraise our staff every year.
  • Train. She is training to be a Web designer.
  • Promote. She was promoted to finance director.
  • Pass over. He was passed over for promotion.
  • Perform. He hasn't been performing well.
  • Demote. They demoted him after poor sales.

The end

  • Dismiss. She was dismissed for stealing.
  • Sack. She sacked him because he lied to her.
  • Fire. She was fired after sales fell.
  • Lay off. They laid off fifty workers.
  • Make redundant. she was made redundant last month.
  • Resign. He resigned from his job.
  • Retire. He retired after forty years.
